Knowing how to save fuel during driving is a key question of maintaining motorcycles.
After the cold motorcycle starts, pull the choke valve handle in full open position after the engine rotates about 1min. Someone likes to close the choke valve in a angle, which makes the inflammable mixture into cylinder too heavy and causes fuel consumption to increase and engine power drop. Others start to drive once the motorcycle starts, which can not save fuel and even quicken the abrasion of engine internal parts.
2. Start to operate
The motorcycle should be operated to start in a low-speed gear. Don't step on the throttle before the clutches combine; slowly loosen the clutch after the clutch is in semi-linkage state, meanwhile increase throttle slowly to adapt to the requirements of engine speed and starting and to have the motorcycle start steadily. Otherwise the engine works discontinuously and flames out once loosening the clutch. After several times, it shall cause a lot of fuel consumption.
3. Gear shift
Grasp gear shift chance and shift gear in time. After the motorcycle starts, if the road is even and smooth, low gear must be shifted to high gear quickly. Never rush ahead or drive for a long period of time in low gear. When you feel the engine power is not enough, the speed decreases gradually (such as upslope) and the former gear is not fit to drive on, you should immediately shift to lower gear, don't try hard to support and give the engine too much force; never speed up by the means of using clutch semi-linkage and increasing throttle.
Making full use of inertia during driving can save fuel: one type is, when it is time to park the motorcycle, make use of inertia rather than brake, reduce fuel to drive certain distance and have the motorcycle stop automatically; the other type is, when discovering barriers in the distance ahead, reduce the speed early and slide at neutral gear and when encountering the barriers the speed has been lowered, which avoids consuming engine energy by means of braking to reducing speed and also saves fuel.
5. Speed up
When speeding up, don't increase the throttle to the end. Increase the throttle with force that can come to your desirable speed and don't loosen to avoid consuming extra fuel. Someone has such driving habit: step on the motorcycle and operate the throttle without driving on, and do it again when getting off the motorcycle and even substitute it for horn. It not only increases petrol consumption, but also quickens the abrasion of part and adds engine noise.
6. Tire pressure
Reasonable tire pressure is an important factor to save fuel during driving. Motorcycle tire should comply with the instruction book. If the tire pressure is not enough, the tire shall increase resistance due to distortion and cause extra energy consumption and have fuel consumption rise.
